Elizabeth City, N.C. — Elizabeth City State University’s (ECSU) alumni network is getting a new advocate, and she’s no stranger to the Viking spirit. After a national search, Mone’t Basnight Earle, a 2005 ECSU alumna and fourth-generation Viking, has been named Director of Alumni Relations and Engagement within the Division of University Advancement. But for Earle, this role isn’t just about titles. It’s about legacy, family, and a commitment to the place that shaped her journey.
Earle’s love for ECSU runs deep. She’s not just a graduate. She is a familiar face within the Viking community. From her supportive roles and committee work with Homecoming celebrations and Viking Fest, to the Down East Viking Football Classic and the Founder’s Day Scholarship Gala, students and alumni feel her impact. Her leadership in the National Alumni Association, Inc. and dedication to the ECSU Alumni Marching Band make her more than someone with connections—she’s a bridge between the past, present and future of ECSU.
Earle’s leadership is built on a foundation of service and celebration. Since 2018, she has been an integral member of the ECSU Homecoming Committee, ensuring that alumni return not just for the festivities but to reconnect with their alma mater. As the Homecoming Parade Chairperson since 2022, she has infused the event with energy and Viking pride. Her co-chairmanship of the 52nd National Alumni Association Convention demonstrated her commitment to uniting Vikings nationwide.
Kevin J. Wade, vice chancellor for Student Affairs and interim vice chancellor for University Advancement, sees a bright future under Earle’s leadership. “I believe Mrs. Earle’s knowledge and experience will help elevate our alumni and pre-alumni initiatives, ultimately strengthening the pipeline of engaged university alumni. Her commitment to fostering meaningful connections between students and alumni will enhance our long-term engagement strategies and institutional support.”
With Earle leading the way, ECSU’s alumni engagement is set to grow. Her vision is clear: to strengthen the Viking bond, foster lifelong connections, and ensure every ECSU graduate feels a lasting connection to their alma mater. Whether through signature events, networking opportunities or mentorship programs, she is determined to build a legacy of pride and support.
